Don Chuy’S Mexican Grill & Bar Information

Tucked along the busy stretch of US-98 in Hattiesburg, Don Chuy’S Mexican Grill & Bar has become a familiar stop for locals craving hearty Mexican comfort food in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Sitting at 6555 US-98, the location makes it easy to spot, especially for anyone heading through the west side of town or stopping after shopping nearby. The place has the kind of casual energy that works equally well for a quick lunch, a laid-back dinner with friends, or a family night out.

Walking inside, the atmosphere feels lively without being overwhelming. Warm lighting, colorful décor, and the steady buzz of conversation set the tone right away. It’s the type of spot where servers greet regulars by name while first-time visitors quickly feel at ease. During busy evenings, especially weekends, the dining room fills up fast, which says a lot about its popularity among Hattiesburg residents and visitors passing through Mississippi.

The menu leans into the classic Mexican restaurant favorites people expect but does them with solid consistency. Fajitas are a standout, arriving at the table still sizzling with grilled peppers and onions, and the portion sizes are generous enough to share. The tacos come with a variety of fillings, from seasoned ground beef to grilled chicken and steak, while combination plates allow diners to mix enchiladas, tamales, and burritos on one platter. One thing that stands out after a few visits is how fresh the ingredients taste, especially the salsa served with the complimentary chips. It’s bright, slightly spicy, and clearly made to keep people reaching for more.

Drinks are another highlight here, particularly the margaritas that many local reviews mention. Whether frozen or on the rocks, they’re balanced and not overly sweet, which pairs nicely with the richer dishes on the menu. The bar area tends to draw a small evening crowd, and it adds a social element that keeps the place feeling energetic well into the night.

Service is typically attentive without hovering. On one visit during a busy dinner rush, our server managed multiple tables yet still checked in frequently enough to keep drinks refilled and the meal moving smoothly. That kind of consistent hospitality is often reflected in online reviews across platforms like Google and Yelp, where diners regularly mention friendly staff and quick service.

Prices fall right into the comfortable mid-range you’d expect from a neighborhood Mexican grill, making it accessible for both casual meals and group gatherings. While the restaurant doesn’t claim to reinvent Mexican cuisine, it succeeds by delivering reliable flavors, satisfying portions, and a lively dining experience that keeps people coming back to this Hattiesburg location.

What People's Say About Place

This is always our "go to" place. Tonight they served us all delicious meals but ran out of dishes ? And the service was slow . This turned into a two hour dinner, ok if you are with good friends but could be another thing if you are dinning with children .

I went there with my friends and the service was very good, and the food even better. I am definitely coming back. Also people are nice and always taking care of the customers. 100% recommend

Wanted Mexican but was tired of Cinco de Mayo, so came here for dinner. DC service is better, food and price is about the same. Nicer atmosphere. Happy Hour lasts until 7 instead of just 6. Margaritas have a heavier lime taste but very good.

Great restaurant to enjoy on this side of Hattiesburg. Table chips are fresh and not too oily. Salsa is above average on heat, but not too spicy. Steak fajitas were sizzling & flavorful and the pechuga de pollo came with fresh greens for the health-conscious. Fair prices for the portions! Very spacious area and comfortable seating. Simple, clean, and festive decorations throughout the restaurant and bathrooms. Customer service was welcoming and happy at the time. Margaritas were well balanced and tasty. I plan to spend time with friends at the bar pretty often!

Excellent service, the food is very delicious. They are friendly, excellent prices and super fast, I recommend them.

We love this restaurant and we have been to them all in Hattiesburg. Much better than Half Shell. Try the fajitas, quesadillas and fish tacos. Also try the new non-alcoholic drink not on the menu called the Mathew! Made by our waiter Mathew when we asked for a mocktail. They don’t have any on the menu yet, but he said he was previously a bartender and would try to make one. He did and it was delicious. Where can you get terrific ‘eager to please’ service like that at a restaurant? Don Chuey for sure.

Idk what happened when Jennifer K got here, but I'm telling you that the Burrito Don Chuy could solve the tension in the middle east. Sometimes servers have a bad day too, but when we got here we sat at the bar and were greeted promptly, got some drinks and settled on food. I had barely laid the menu down when my wife's fajita accessories came out and the main dishes, including the glorious , were not far behind. Two bites in and I wanted to hug the cook. I finished the whole thing like a little y, and while I may be miserable later, I'm so happy now I could cry. Get in here and try it for yourself.
